As Founder of 501c3 nonprofit, Find Your Fabulosity, Sheryl Kurland (pictured, left) has devoted a decade of her life to uplifting victims of domestic violence through her ongoing women’s beauty initiative. Kurland’s Find Your Fabulosity collects and donates tens of thousands of new packaged lipsticks to women living in domestic violence shelters. The donated lipsticks are a powerful symbol of hope and a reminder to these women that they are beautiful and they have a voice.
To date, Kurland’s Find Your Fabulosity has collected and donated more than 110,000 new packaged lipsticks to domestic violence victims via her ever-expanding network of 300+ women’s shelters throughout Florida and across the United States. Kurland’s successful independent nonprofit has received lipstick donations from multiple cosmetics brands who support her cause: M.A.C Cosmetics, Gwen Stefani’s GXVE Beaty, e.l.f. Cosmetics, Thrive Causemetics, and Defiance Beauty among others. Lipstick donations also pour in from women’s organizations and individuals who believe in Kurland’s mission.
In explaining their decision to honor Kurland with their Heart of Service Award, Women’s Executive Council of Orlando’s Immediate Past President and current Membership Chairwoman Yarmmys Vargas says, “Our nominating committee chairs found Sheryl’s story to be impactful in our community. We look for women who are not only doing great work within the Orlando community, but who are making a significant impact that stretches outward and gives the city of Orlando a good name. Sheryl’s volunteerism and her passion for advocating for women really hit home for us. We were inspired by how something as simple as a lipstick can do so much to uplift so many women.”
Vargas adds, “The committee was also impressed by Sheryl Kurland’s ability to transcend the Orlando, Florida community, positively impacting more than 100,000 women throughout the United States. That is why we wanted to honor her with this year’s Heart of Service Award.”
The Women’s Executive Council of Orlando (established in 1972), in addition to giving out five distinctive awards to outstanding women at this year’s event, will incorporate its annual silent auction fundraiser to benefit educational scholarships for young women in the Orlando area.
Sheryl Kurland will be available for interviews at the awards ceremony to discuss Find Your Fabulosity. The awards ceremony and silent auction will take place October 16th at The Abbey in downtown Orlando, from 6-9pm.
