Manicures and pedicures can be pretty. The cosmetic products used, like nail polish and nail polish removers, also must be safe—and are regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA also regulates the devices used to dry (or “cure”) artificial nails or gel nail polish as electronic products because they emit radiation.
